Diverse Books for Children Recommendations

Diverse Books

All children, regardless of age, religion, ethnicity, gender, and ability, deserve to see themselves reflected in the books they read. This guide is designed to give  readers, age 0 to 12 --  access to books that represent the diverse mix of cultures, races and abilities that comprise our world.  Many books on these lists will also give children the opportunity to feel represented in their uniqueness. These titles, furthermore,  help children and their families meaningfully engage in important issues of racism, diversity, and equality.
Recommended books in this guide are selected from a wide range of reliable sources, including award committees, library journals, and, of course, your trusted librarians here in the Ossining Children's Room.
This guide is intended to be fluid, and will be updated regularly to reflect the most current, creative, and popular titles we add to our collection.  Most titles should be available through Westchester Library System, and some can even be borrowed online through Overdrive, Kanopy, and other databases listed below.  Finally, we look forward to hearing from you, our patrons, and invite you to recommend your own favorites to add to our collection.
